How studying agriculture works in Germany

Agricultural science is taught at two kinds of public institutions. Universities (Universitäten) offer research-oriented bachelor's and master's degrees, usually called Agrarwissenschaften, with specializations such as agricultural economics or animal science. Universities of applied sciences (Hochschulen für angewandte Wissenschaften, formerly Fachhochschulen) offer practice-oriented degrees, typically Landwirtschaft or Agrarwirtschaft. A practical internship of several months is usual.

Dual programs combine studying with work at a partner company or farm, sometimes together with a vocational qualification. Bachelor's programs are mostly taught in German; some master's programs are taught in English.
